I am currently reading Creativity, Inc., a book by Ed Catmull, co-founder of Pixar Animation Studios. I bought this book based off a recommendation list containing the authors 20 books that actually changed his life. I haven’t finished the book yet, so this isn’t a full summary, but I manage to pick up some interesting parts already.
The purpose or goal in Ed Catmull his professional life, once he realised the potential of the computer and his lack in talent of drawing, has been to create the first computer animated feature film. As you might be well aware, Pixar made the first computer animated film Toy Story.
Although this was a great achievement, Ed Catmull realised that between all the happiness he felt a certain sadness. Because, he made his “life long” goal, what was his purpose? I felt this was a very interesting question, once you reach your sense of purpose what do you do next?
