In my search for a way to automate parts of my blog posting process and other parts of personal website I stumbled upon metalsmith.io. It presents itself as “an extremely simple, pluggable static site generator”.
If I look at my current requirements metalsmith is looks to be what I want in order to generate each blog post using templates, have tags and not copy and pasting around all the files. I will have to dive into the documentation soon to see if a basic setup can already help me out.
The reason for going with a static site generator is to keep as much control over system as possible. I presume a solution as Ghost will give me more features out of the box, however I will give up some control. As I am always looking to learn more as a developer, having experience with static site generators seems like another reason to try it out. In the end, next time I will know what solution might fit the scenario.
